I have this love hate relationship with my mattress.
well maybe not my mattress per se,
my bed as a whole.
okay,
so I have this love hate relationship with a freshly made bed.
mine or not,
I have a love hate relationship with a freshly made bed.
a freshly made bed with
freshly washed sheets and
freshly fluffed pillows and
a freshly fluffed blanket
and despite it being 3 hours since it all has come out of the dryer
it still smells of warmth
feels warm
gives me that warm fuzzy feeling when I dive in.
that warm fuzzy feeling of
knowing that I'm going to get a well rested nights sleep
atop this
freshly made bed with
freshly washed sheets and
freshly fluffed pillows and
a freshly fluffed blanket.
But you see,
I have this love hate relationship with a freshly made bed.
despite the coziness
comforting warmth and wafting aromas
there's something missing.
yes,
there's something missing.
you.
but not you as in someone specific,
you as in someone else
a human companion.
someone to share in the comfort and coziness
someone with which to intertwine my late night thoughts
you know,
the thoughts you have while you're midnight snacking on tunes to lullaby you to sleep
all the while enveloped in the warming aromas of the freshly made bed.
that freshly made bed with
freshly washed sheets and
freshly fluffed pillows and
a freshly fluffed blanket.
so,
cozy and warm as I may be
slivers of sadness slip their splinters into my sleepy skin
as I snack myself to sleep on soothing songs.

sweet dreams be yours dear,
if dreams there be.
sweet dreams to carry you close to me.
I wish they may and I wish they might,
now goodnight my someone goodnight.
