I remember
as if the moment was just passed
as if the moment occurred this instant
in my mind's eye
in my deepest of hearts

I remember that one night
unlike any other i had lived through
where the tremors flowed
across my body like water

I remember the drive
panicked i tried to be a man
music playing yet setting no tone
I belonged elsewhere yet knew i was here

I remember that first night
that only night
talking and laughing and crying
for the first time crying
my fingers unwrapping your gift
the greatest gift
so thoughtful
so you

i remember laying beside you
belonging to someone else, both of us
holding you close
for the first time content
it was wrong but right
years spent talking living and loving in secret
here at this very moment
cheek to cheek
eyes to eyes
some things can never be hidden

i remember as if it was yesterday
as I always will
for that one night
was the last night
i was truly me
