June 19th
Sunset


Tonight's sunset begged to be
plucked from the sky.

to be put into your mouth
like cotton candy.


melting slowly

tasting of summer.

of sun kissed peaches.

of freckled shoulders.

of splash pools and sprinklers.

of laughter and friendship.

of long days and short nights.


its sunsets like these
that you can taste
and savor and hold on to

and when the cold winter nights
take away the sunshine,
you can come back to these
Summer sunsets.
