its time

as I straightened the map
at the back of the class
I saw St. Louis--

and thought of the two
meager times I passed through
its overcrowded mugginess--

I simply wanted to be Home--

fifty-three years in a classroom
preparing for that broad,
bright world beyond

Time does send these moments back to us doesn't it, remembered moments that tell us how we lived.
