THE WINNER TAKES A MOMENT by W. Mahlon PurdinThe winner takes a moment. Something he or she's
Been waiting for. For a lifetime.
Who can blame them? Winner takes all.
Didn't ask for it. Just took it. Just desserts.
In that moment there was a thought of gratitude:
Was it for the others' inept play, or
For understanding?
Not that it matters.
This is a moment of self-indulgence.
Hard-earned. Well deserved.
Next, some head home. Some drop to their knees.
Some try to write it all down.
First was that thought when
In the shock of sudden victory
And thrall of actually winning
That moment of insanity:
You knew it was all about you. 10/08/2012 Posted on 04/14/2013 Copyright © 2026 W. Mahlon Purdin
