Deceptive Depictions by Jeffrey ParrenThe days are long
and the nights, longer.
The TV doesn't flicker
like the old days,
I'd say it bounces
at night now.
It's deceptive depictions are fluid
and have all five senses confused.
(I tried to eat some
Beef Bacon that was on
Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives last night.)
Sometimes I fall asleep
with it still on
and my dreams start
to get broken up
by 30 second infomercials.
(I'm doing Insanity now.)
I've used the TV
as a succinct filter
of my mind as its focus
hinders further mental tangents
much like the video games
help me escape this prison.
Though I appreciate
cognitive abilities,
sometimes I just want
to be dumber than
a bunch of rocks,
perhaps more static
than the Yule Log
on TBS during Christmas.
TV, you're a friend
that little good comes from
other than the occasional
deceptive depictions.
I'd sell you if
I could bring myself to,
but then what would I do?
