Tilted Heart

by Sandy M. Humphrey

it is not extravagant
yet I am seldom without
this tilted heart slide
gold with diamond chip
on white gold chain

often reaching for my
Heart
when tears may fall
prayers are said
wishes whispered

then there was
a night last fall
I clutched my fist
around it and felt
for the pulse of
my love
waiting

for if I
had not found
one I would
have ripped
the heart away

my tilted Heart
knows our history
and our future
so for now
it stays
within
reach

Author's Note: Poetry Prompt:write about an object you might talk to. Nov 6, 2012 my husband was in a roll over accident..the heart was indeed clutched in my hand as I cried, prayed, wished him alive and waited until I was allowed to be by his side. He is still going throuhg therapy but he is mobile, alive and I feel blessed...my tilted heart does too. SMH

Wonderful analogy and expression of love, fear, and hope. Thank the Lord your husband made it through all the trauma.
