Between Ivory and Horn

by Kerowyn Rose

He haunts me, day and night;
night and day. He
haunts me…
shows me futures
that exist
in other dimensions.
He twists my dreams,
runs them
round and round;
and round again.
He makes a mess
of my daydreams --
hoarding possibilities
that have died
as potentials only.
He’s kicked the angels
off my shoulders; for he is
now the good and the bad side
of me arguing away.
“This is good, no that is bad”
“Do this, no do that…”
“Just sleep you crazy child;
things will untangle themselves.”
“Spend your life adventuring
with me to places no one goes.”
“I’d like you to meet my brother Hypnos.”
