The Way Your Body Would Shake

by Jared Orlando

You found your feet -
They were interwoven with
Cuban air and departure
Slowly your breath regained
And your toes were pointed
Midway between a Tallahassee
Sunset and sunrise
See, the trees stand on their own
And the delicacy of your coral sea
Eyes make their passes about the room
You always await the charm and whit
Of the upperclass statesman
His suits all pressed and clean
But here I am, with mile-long baggage
Tied to the chair I came in with
More drunk than drunk can be
And off my lips I speak only
Of the way your body would shake
Deep into the fresh mornings
Our deep alcove skin deep
We count our fingers until there are no more
Kiss until we forget the pain that'll remain when we part
