i was in a gown
but my feet were bare
the royalty and poise of the night
drowned in relief and wine

my dress dragged the floor
your hair was messy
i came close enough
to touch at arm's length

i made a blindfold
with a strip of chiffon
wrapped it gently around your head
but my loyalty to elegance won
and i set you free before making you
my prisoner
