we live on (as imagined)

by Charlie Morgan

the sage Markandeyu fell out of Vishnu's
mouth as the great god slept.
Vishnu awoke and took him back in.

as daylight takes our protests from the night,
and allows suffering, for our suffering matters.

our agonies, small and those in a grand setting;
are marked in our Universe, significant.

we mark them in days forgotten, remembered by
by our steps, daily as footstones to tread.

only the imagined exists as real;
a death is not imagined, we live on.
