When I turn

by Carl Walker

when I turn to life (circumstances)
to give me life (peace)
then lack of peace reigns.

Difficulty and ease are a part of every life
in different mixes
in different times
like waves of the sea
they roll, they roll

there is no rest if I only trust inside (myself)
there is no rest if I only trust outside (my circumstances)

where can the rules, guidelines, advice, the map, the compass, directions be found
so many voices make all their claims
so many voices leave all their stains

where can I turn
if not to myself
(who I also found to give imperfect advice/perspective
but is still
the
one [the only one]
I
must/will
trust)
if I trust any at all

how will I know if there is a greater
then how will I know

there is deduction that provides direction
there is emotion that provides propulsion
there is the mix of time that provides testing
and testing, seeking,
seeking, testing,
testing, testing provides clarity

mixing time and deduction and emotion
I have come to believe I was made for belief
I have come to believe the greater wants to be known
for the pathways of the greater are etched on the soul

When I sought (demanded) peace from life (circumstances)
I had no peace
When the waves of life rolled over me and my foot slipped woundingly
I found a vessel
riding the waves, often imperfectly
but better
much better
than being adrift

I seek to lose myself in the Son
and in so
I find my life

Wise words my brother, Solomon could not have done better!
