This One Is For You by Dan Linn
I stood staring on the shore watching you swim,
not letting the wave rise past soles of my shoes.
Gulls peck at my eyes wet for the oyster tears,
Horses gallop past buffeting my extended arms.
But I haven't bled, I am guarded in dry wards,
I feel a coming cold and wish to turn from folly,
but I have walked on tight wires and fallen often
and desire immersion without holding breath.
So I scream at your tide for following the moon,
a thin angry wraith wailing about lost children,
I hold my finger up asking your wind to wait,
just a little longer or until I am washed away.
11/14/2012 Author's Note: Written for another poet who's Mid East desert spiced, South American romantic writing, made me feel I could walk on water, but only because it was so shallow.
