A Halloween Night by Uriel TovarA restless night
Tinted gold and black
Under the cold burning reflection of
A pale moon
We who tread in its evanescence
Recall briefly
Those whose bones lie under
Our soft footsteps
Bringing us a little closer
To the history which
We have forgotten.
Recalling
Recalling and recalling
Each new memory
Projecting out
Laid before us
A dusty old hologram
Of a life we’ve never known
Ages before our own birth
Still
As familiar as a good wine
And pungent cheese
Left to linger on our tongues.
And when we finally arrive
Home
Kicking off dusty shoes and
Shoving off old heavy coat
We make our way up to
Our beds with imprints of
Fat tired body
As we make arrangements
To stare off into our ceiling
Conjuring those past
Haunting demons of
Our ancestors.
