elusive

by Jared Fladeland

There was a time
Where I was ambitious,
and I wanted to bend the world to my will.

I wanted carpets rolled out, and elephants at my disposal.

I wanted nature to shine when I wanted,
and the rain to fall when I was ill,
and I wanted everyone to know my name
before my days were gone.

I wanted to be remembered
for all the things I'm worth.

But I tell you this secret with a smirk and a wink:

The more I let go,
the more I could receive.
