the boring calamities

by Ryan Narce

I feel like you’ll see it & not like it
all my hairline fractures slowly drawn
out until they’re insuperable obstacles
to loving me

this is, of course, a minor hysteria –
I palpitate over my allergies & quirks of character
& noble overstatements of practically everything
(the above included)

which means “it” ends cataclysmically before it starts
a hundred times
before you even manage to lace yr
fingers together behind my back

it’s the process of me reviving myself and falling stuporously
back into fits of adolescence and dormant jealousies
- you’d only half-laugh at the recursive nature of this -

because I keep needing it to be sublimating instead;
some dash-fast process that cycles like a sub-routine
infinite calculations cramped into fractional bits of time
so that I can emerge from it mid-conversation
without you ever knowing
that I go through these boring calamities
at least once a day
