here are no question marks:
you are alive in a way no one else
seems to be

there is another signal,
at some prohibitive frequency
which you emit
& only I seem to grasp

& as you throw off this
mirthful & rich energy
others do seem to gather
some crude sense of it
& fall in love
with its faintest
outlines

as if evolution allowed
them to find food
but not taste it

& they are all trampling one
&other to get at you
& seem to have always been
doing so

but I can tell that their
filament-thin grasping
& fumbly attempts to evolve
are finally nothing so much
as tiring to you

& as your signal fades from the effort
& you pull back, disappointed


you will collapse right into
my lap again
& we’ll stride right into
the day fearlessly //

// me studying yr bird-like
smooth gestures &
laughing blackly w/ a
mouthful of popcorn leavings

emerging from a movie
I begged you to go see
because of the happy ending //
