Goodbye!

by JJ Johnson

She demanded
Hang up the phone
Let go of the chord
stretched out between us
Let the connection be lost over the line
That has been crossed more often than you want to know
Say goodbye and press end one last time
There is no one on this end of the call
You placed so long ago you can't remember the sound
That once made your heart race and your ears vibrate
Pulsing with the beat she tapped into your mind
The look in her eyes when she lay next to you
A distant memory that lingers in the darkness
When all there was left to say was goodbye
And you could not pull the words out through your teeth
And you could not hang up to hear her voice no more
Her final act was to cut the line like she did your throat
That would not let you speak the words she begged you to say
So now forever in your mind her last word echos, goodbye

Definitely an echo to this, man. The best kind.
