We quiver in the deep end
staring miles into eachother's eyes,
waiting for the signal
to commit our sins.
The boiling water shakes in slow-motion
as the mist rises above our heads,
taking the moisture from our bodies,
and carrying it away for the gods.
The pool light was gleaming beneath the waves
and I couldn't separate shadow from skin.
Penetrating, the chlorine stung my eyes
like punishment for prying.
The wink came sudden and unexpected
as I paddled toward her with the hopeful release of tension.
She moved away and swam past me and
I realized the wink had been misinterpreted.
I slowly turned around
only to see them together.
Sinking fast in a cloud of bubbles,
I hoped to never again break the surface of this water...
