Another coin by Kosta GkekasI walked alone downtrodden paths, and came across a blanket
within the wretched folds i saw a homeless persons casket.
a rabid hat sat silent watch upon the chilled concrete
and there, the first time ever did i see eyes with bred defeat.
A moment more i reached within and fished out loosened change
and leaning down i dropped them in, i knew the care was feigned
fur covered leg stretched out bare and unfurled cramped up limb
another pair of eyes i saw, the first was but a whim.
The man sat up and slightly smiled. my effort was in vain
for now i saw that deep within he hid a longing pain
the blanket moved and up now sat a dog matted and grey
canine eyes now locked on mine i dared not move away.
"thankyou sir" the words came mute and barely left cracked lips
i nodded once but didnt speak my eyes stayed locked transifxed
they say that eyes alone portray the window the soul
but here two pairs of dark sad pools looked back their stories just untold.
