Spiraling

by Jared Orlando

Softly sifting through decades
Of settled-soot-memories
Dusty-vinyl-sleeve-fragments
Crackling-light-through-stressed-ice-flashbacks
Stopping only to savor
The momentary bliss
One can enjoy only in
Tiny bouts of time
Wild bursts of laughter, an innocent graze
Winding back through
Cages of tiny to medium-sized
Tangible representations of
Pain and regret, masked in
All-baring teeth, clawing for escape
A moving sidewalk takes you
CRT televisions go on, go static, then
With upturned lips, on 5,000 screens
She waves, as her heels are wisping
Past daisy fields; through adolescence
Then silence, then brisk darkness
The smell of ocean balloons your lungs
The taste of salt dries out your tongue
A chasm appears
And we disappear
