True Abandonment

by Alison McKenzie

Today’s snapshot is dark,
The figures blurring
One into the other -
The glimpse of tomorrow
Vague, ambiguous.

To have found us
With so little glue
Is truly the most
Disheartening condition
Of any relationship
I’ve ever encountered.

If I stand
As only one body
At the end of this
Cold and blustery day,
It will not be death,
Though the breathing
Grows shallow,
And the heart flutters.

Has Destiny
Run to some hidden file
Of your recall?

Do you not remember that
We manifested one another?

Your previous declarations of it
Echo hollow now
In the face of these few
Yesterdays.

I stand in the hall,
Listening for the soft sound
Of your breathing
Beyond all these closed doors.

It is my deepest wish
To find you again,
To feel your passion forever
Bursting inside me.

Alas,
This has rendered me ash,
Waiting for the next door to open,
Hoping beyond hope that you
Will be standing on the other side.

Of necessity, I have
Reclaimed the keys
To my own tomorrows.

In the process,
Many of my words
Seem to have disintegrated,
My heart too.

But they will eventually reappear,
For they never
Truly leave me.

I am surrounded
By my guides;
My friends and family,
And most importantly,
My own tender love
For myself.

And in this condition,
True abandonment
Does not exist.

Beautiful, and piercing. The imagery in this is just ethereal.

We must feel comfortable with who we are before we can move on to anything. Nice write lady.

Believe it or not I love the inspiration I got from this piece. The last two stanzas really made this entire piece. I love your gentle and loving outlook Alison. Can you feel the energy? :)

Beautiful, fully fleshed-out determination in this.
