soon to be tossed into the river of time

by Tom Goss

1. the flow of trees

root
muscled root

hardened to nature's
reign

water usurper
bark-covered veins

chlorophyll for blood

drinking energy
from a late evening
sky
from a late evening
sky

I am here
alone
time's star witness

eyes entombed in this skull
which holds me like a stone
holds me like stone

2. the silence of the leaves

I watch her undress
like fall's
crumpled caress

3. I heard a song on the wind

I stole
the light
of the Milky Way

kept its E=MC2
in my mind

for I am greedy
for the universe

though her heartbreaking
bruises
are plentiful
bounteous

and she crushes my soul to dust
to dust

The twists and turns of this constantly made me doubt where I might go next. Your work constantly does that, including this one, and I'm always in awe of that. Well done.
