june, you've done it again

by Peter Hsu

june, you've done it again
got me into my best clothes
upstairs, on the edge of the evening
flinging my blood
at every brilliant, dying star

and not even noon's knockout punch
can keep me down,
not since i've cast my drunken heart
into the river,
a valentine to the blue, dreaming sea

now i fill my empty chest
with summer lightning,
that pale fire which keeps me
awake all night,
taming every monstrous memory
with these luminescent words

(and wherever i go
i bring the roar of thunder)

I really like the way you pull colors into this poem to set the mood for each stanza. Very nice.
