Unfade Away by JJ JohnsonI cannot show you what my eyes no longer see
But inside you is someone unhidden inside me
While all I have remaining is a vision of you
I no longer know if I knew what I knew
When I look into your eyes do you know what I see?
The windows to your soul are clouded to me
I try so hard to see the last echoes of light
Until your shadow comes to preserve the night
Morning ascends in storms of dangling gray
The last rise of daybrak is fading away
Is it the loss of sight my eyes cannot percieve
Or has your darkness grown so far beyond me?
I wonder if your reels will ever be shown
Or if the one inside your heart will remain unknown
The star that shines alone in your dark lonely sky
Casts one last glimmer of hope into my eye 06/09/2012 Author's Note: This poem is about my fading eyesight due to a stroke in the vision center of my brain in February. I've been told by doctors that the only way my vision can ever improve is if another part of my brain can learn to do what the part killed in the stroke was responsible for. jj

| Posted by George Hoerner on 06/10/12 at 05:20 PM My eyes have been bad since I was 6 or 7. I've always thought I might someday lose my sight. As I age I'm not sure which, given a choice, I'd rather lose, my sight or hearing. I have the minds eye and I know it is not the same. I love art and music so I don't know which I'd miss more. Good write JJ and hopefully they can still come up with some kind of solution for your sight. |
