May 30

by Meghan Helmich

You never really listened to music
in the 80's which is a shame.
You were too busy changing diapers and
sleeping off migraines
to know that girls just want to have fun
or that The Boss was born in the USA.
But I do remember your zipper case
with a few cassettes of Whitney
asking, "didn't we almost have it all?"
and the Miami Sound Machine's warning
that the rhythm is going to get you.
You still go crazy when Billy
sings about white weddings.

Well, I'm certainly glad you went through with it. So many unbelievable pieces. This one is pretty damn good, too.

i love this... you know we were the last generation to record songs off the radio onto blank cassette tapes. i still have a few of mine with hand labeled stickers listing these very songs.
