because thursday begins without you

by Peter Hsu

because thursday begins
without you
my heavy gaze slips downward
dragging my hands
into the memory of warmth
slowly ebbing from this indentation
this gravity
in the corner of my bed
where you had lain

for this
i might relinquish knowledge
and leave the weight of my anatomy
my heart a slender rocket spitting fire
rising past my iron skull
june's greyest clouds
to orbit giddily around the sun
