May 27

by Meghan Helmich

You so full of pride
and loyalty,
a woman of shoulder pads
in the late 80s and pumps
on every occasion,
the soft face that I see
everytime I turn on the light
and look into the mirror.
Now I can finger time
and watch it drop like pennies
as you became her,
as I became you.

You create such fascinating portraits of people.
