my drifter brother

by Vikki Owens

how old are you now,
my favorite brother?
brother and my soul friend for life?
i have always measured your age
by the years between our birth,
but i can barely remember how old i am.

do you want a bite of my sandwich?
i'd gladly share it with you,
to be your best buddy.

drifter brother, you've gone off on a boat
to find yourself, to find your way,
and you've gone so far.

did you know,
that from my heart there are three silver lines
that pull and tug and stretch,
connected to my brothers,
one is connected to you.
and though you are in some ocean far away,
i can feel the waves send shivers to my soul,
telling me
that you are at this latitude and longitude,
wherever you are.

i could not be more proud of you.

Sibling love at it's finest, for sure.
