Sorrow

by David Neubauer

---------> Love is a Juggernaut

How could you have been so blind,
so short-sighted? How could you not see
the cliff right before your feet, how could you
carelessly lift your foot, dangle it
idly over the sucking void,
and then pitch headlong, dragging us both down?
How could you?

I have always wondered
how you can do, so easily,
without me in your life.
I wonder if you even miss me?
Absence makes the heart
fill with sorrow.

I need a place to sit with the infernal puzzle,
the jigsaw whirlwind you made of my heart.
Trampled pieces you left behind,
and I keep gluing them back into place.
I’ve always hated super glue, and now
my fingers are stuck together.
Someday,
the cracks won't show.
My sorrow can stop spilling,
trickling to the floor.
