Here I Stand (v4)

by David Neubauer

Emotions run,
like paint in a rainstorm;
muddled and unpredictable,
cold and soaked through.

Here I stand, ready to
wrestle my easel and palette,
in the middle of my rainstorm.
I'm ready to paint.
Something true,
...something beautiful,
......something meaningful;
a self portrait.

Here I stand,
raw and vulnerable.
I've chosen my brushes carefully,
each one in turn to fight off
the chaos and splatter,
the melting of canvas.
I may not find the end
of this picture today,
...or tomorrow.
But among the thunderclaps
I WILL find it.

So here I'll stand, painting.
Bring down your lightning,
if you dare.

I love the determined, defiant tone of this. Great write.
