Side B

by Jolie Jordan

I can imagine you
as my husband
we are picking out paint colors, or whatever
and arguing (we are always arguing)
our kids are terrible.

Young, single couples stare.
they are beautiful and in love
we don't give a fuck

Because sometimes
when you get older
being perfect
and finding the perfect person for you
turns into

I will settle for the one
that loves me even when I am drunk
and falling
and even if
that happens too often.

Sometimes, getting older
means keeping the one
who fights you over nothing
and tucks you in
when you are ill.

Author's Note: Side B to Side A. ( I wrote these both within minutes of eachother, not meaning them to match and realizing that they do, so well. )

That second stanza got a laugh out me. Great companion piece.
