No Flowers For Me

by Joan Serratelli

very lonely
very unhappy
no-one to talk to
I need human
contact

Always alone
I'm blindsided
all the time
No-one will let
me be me

I'm trying to get by
but they won't be happy
until I'm back at ground zero

Won't do it'Would
rather be dead

I am NOT Charley
I have not come this far
only to go back

I will not back
to a way of life

EVER
For anyone

I'd rather die

I've gotten stronger
now you want me
to go back to
being sick?

NO- I'll never
be 100%
but I'll
settle for
the improvement
I see

Well said Joan. It seems to me that when a family is free of abuse and oppression, it can be the place where we share our deepest secrets and stand the most exposed, a place where we learn to feel distinct without being "better," and sacrifice for others without losing ourselves. The sad truth is it's rare for many to every get that chance...they refuse to let us "get there"...they will want to keep us they same so they don't have to bother themselves with seeing our changes. Best to you. Thanks.
