the sunlight streams
through the blinds
the cat has bent
over the years

she contemplates replacing them
but leaving quickly replaces
the desire to save money -
half the deposit was his,
anyway

the carpet is sunk
where their couch had sat -
she tried vacuuming
but time had settled the marks

the windows look bare
without the curtains
billowing in the ocean breeze
the mist consuming everything

a ghost home
a bundle of memories
of promises and regrets
echo through the halls

she take one last hard look
to soak it all in
encase it in her memory
for all time

but like everything
it too shall fade away
and perhaps the only things
she will remember
were the billowing curtains

and the mist that rolled in
