....And When I Die...

by Joan Serratelli

I look at death
as the end of life
as I know it
on Earth
...and a beginning
of a new chapter
The older I get
the more I think
of an afterlife
vastly different
than the life
I've led
It might be
a fantasy
a defense mechanism
I do not fear death
Somewhere it is written;
preordained
It is fate
that will take me
...and I will go
as quietly as I can
I Know one thing
I will die
...unafraid

I lived without fear
...and when it's time
to go...I will go

A beautifully written chronicle to leave behind when the hooded figure calls your name. I loved the conviction put into this.
