Bridget

by V. Blake

i remember thinking you looked like a movie star.
i knew you were prettier than other girls, even before
i had any real concept of what a pretty girl was.

i sat with you in my car when the sky came down.
i never kissed you. i should have tried.

i doubt you will ever see this poem. if you do,
i won't have been the one that read it to you.
i hope that one takes credit for writing it.
i hope you like what you hear.

i saw a photo of you today.
i was not surprised
you were not alone.

Ahh, Bridget. I currently have one in my life, too. She's as beautiful as the one you described.

Ah, that ending definitely speaks to me in all the right ways. You express my own thoughts on certain things with a such a relentless talent for the blunt-yet-profound.
