shock

by Marjorie Anne Reagan

being born
being spanked
being driven into
almost
turned away in need of help
beaten
bruised
battered
turned away in need of help from a teacher
accused when innocent
turned on by family
turned on by neighbors
turned on by friends
turned on by you
lady made to fight for life
baby made to fight for life
accepted in need of help from a car wreck
not able to reach you when in car wreck
accepted by medical staff as patient to help
shocked
crying
over what you did to me
trying to be so good
most vulnerable
in pain
you take me out of it
and put me back in
with your shock
this time I am fighting back
not keeping quiet
or letting you
powerful person
with the remote over electric current running through my body
get away with it
so now
you can go into shock

This lays it all out doesn't it. All of life's traumas listed and yet we move on somehow.
