"All You Need Is Love" is impractical, Lennon.

by Jolie Jordan

We swim in eachothers drunken eyes
carrying on amid mutual friendships.
Your laughter is birdsong in my ears
even if it's direction
isn't for me.

How long can we pretend
this daily grind
is a fairytale?

I remove your shoes as you lie
passed out on the couch,
the black leather stuck to your face.
the rise and fall of your chest
is heavy. my heart feels the same.

I think the thing that scares me the most
is that time is up;
and trying again
never works the fifth or sixth time.

I was excited to see your name in the new poetry list. This was a pleasure to read, as I find all your work to be. That third stanza is absolutely perfect, especially the last line. Beautiful work.

Your 2nd stanza, for me, is an absolute gem. I love the word choice and arrangement.

That third stanza speaks volumes of how much of a punch this thing packs. Wonderful and perfect.

I was really drawn to the fact that you particularly didn't capitalize the beginning of the sentence "my heart feels the same". I don't know if "effortlessly deliberate" makes sense to anyone but me as a descriptor for this piece, but anyway I loved it. It reminds me of how I write. Thanks for sharing
