She loved me once.

by Dorian Black

Her voice was loveless as she caked on her makeup to ....make up for the self esteem that she sacrificed to leave me far behind. She was like a hot shower. Her warmth was soothing until the water turned off and I was forced to either freeze or wipe her from my skin again.

It was a lustless romance. A fingertip catastrophy, in which neither of us would ever see the point.

The dreams and aspirations that we once shared fell limp and retreated to the cracks in the couch that seemed almost all too eager to swallow.

Where was the love that used to dance longingly across her beautiful breasts, as she would whisper sweet everythings in my ears?

The end was near, and I knew it when she looked at me with her cold eyes and spoke those words, that were so dead that flies came from her mouth. " I think we should see other people. "

I laughed. I wasn't sure that my brain quite understood what she had just said until I looked again and saw that she had a single tear streaming down her cheek.

The significance in the tear was too much to let it hit the floor, so I caught it as it pulled away from her face.

This moist droplet was the only evidence now that she once loved me.
