hat shop

by Emily Davidson

dusty and dim
shelves to the ceiling
fedoras and baseball caps

a step into
a past more vivid
than the present

we try them on;
some make us sophisticated
others make us silly

in two matching
black top hats
we are unstoppable

but we are only playing dress up

you may not be unstoppable, but people will stop and look. Cute poem :-)

Cute! I recall many years ago a class I took and the instructor said at that time no one had done a thesis paper on hats and what it does to those who ware them. I don’t know if that has been done yet. Obviously certain hats denote authority, like a policeman’s hat, or a soldiers, but then there are many different types of hats. Again cute write!

"a step into a past more vivid than the present" This whole poem was awesome, but these three lines right here are PERFECT. They are like a thousand poems condensed into ten words. I am so jealous of you for thinking to put them in that order.
