Recovery Nonetheless

by Cole Miller

I don't have a chip
That I can carry around
In my pocket.
But I'm in
Recovery nonetheless.

Instead of drawing
Comfort from
a totem that symbolizes
Hard work and dedication
Towards abstaining
From the act

I run my fingers
along scars upon scars.
some faded beyond
others' recognition.
But never beyond mine.

To me each and every scar
Is as bold and tender
As the day I made them
And I carry them all with me

And yet somehow
I need to learn
to let them go

This is beautiful and definitely a form of recovery, too.
