domestic violence

by Vivienne Grant

you’re a turbulent river
and yet i willingly
wittingly
without forethought
threw myself wholeheartedly into your retributory brown torrents
leapt in
and committed suicide

i am captive
tumbled
bruised and in pain

discover tidal beaches
on the sand
where i lie
depleted
exhausted

gasp for breath
and soft hands

‘til the next time
when
you drag me back in
and once again
fling me against the rocks
