My Forever Valentine

by Shonda Chrissonberry

there once was this girl
who had a silly heart
or perhaps a bit restless heart
or maybe even a careless heart

who gave itself to silly boys
and restless boys
and yes, even careless boys

it loved freely
and without question
it laughed
it shared
it created
it really was a good little heart
but it always got hurt

by silly hopes
and restless dreams
and careless relationships

so much so that one day
this girl with the
silly, restless careless heart
had to tuck her away

from the silly, restless careless boys
and the silly hopes
and the restless dreams
and the careless relationships

she found a safe spot
she closed the door
she turned the brass key
she secured the lock

she hung her head
placed her hand over the emptiness
where her heart used to be
and hid the key
bracing for forever

and one day
there was you
and in an instant
my forever changed

you are
my heartwarmer
my truest love
my keymaster
my forever Valentine

I'm SO happy that we're both able to write happy Valentine's day poems!! Last year at this time, I don't think either of us would have believed it possible! Love this, Shondy, and I am one girl who has always loved your silly heart!

Even a cynic like me can appreciate how good this is.

I really like this, Shonda, and am happy for you. Really struck by "bracing for forever"...
