The day had finally come; the day we all knew would come, the day we all feared. Democracy doesn't die with a bang or a whimper; it gets vetoed with thunderous applause. Watch as the leaders of our time fill the airwaves with soundbytes of their importance, their patriotism. They aren't speaking to their constituents; their speaking to their sponsors, those megalith-like corporations that truly run the world, one massive oligarchy. This election season has been bought and paid for.
And your voice was never heard.
Overpopulation. Massive depression. Corruption. Rampant unemployment. These were all brought upon the simple fact that there are too many people on too little a space. The World Government of Kyoto has resolved to fix this problem in the simplest, most brutal way possible; limiting who can give birth.
Severity.
Since the dawn of time, it has always been those in power who have control over who lives and who dies, yet now they limit who can even be born. The registration process is a bureaucratic nightmare; gene tests and compatibility, credit check, background check, and of course, the bribe. One family, one child; that’s the mantra you hear playing on every vidcast and soundbyte, the savior of our time. Twenty billion people, and we’re not killing them all fast enough; we’ve got to drop the birth rate as well. As if bullets, cancer, pollution, crime, and state-sanctioned executions weren’t good enough, the government now has a right to say who can breed. Good luck to the poor, the most shit-upon demographic in existence, the ones who probably were most likely responsible for a good chunk of this mess we’re in.
And Lord forgive you if you have an unwanted pregnancy.
