present tense, future perfect

by Vikki Owens

i have spent
so much time
grinding my teeth
against the broken ghosts
of my past
that i have forgotten
to lick my lips
with the taste of the future.

sometimes memories
seem more current
than the present,
tense and affected
i have predicted
the outcome
of this
by the patterns of the past
but whether these things
come to pass
is a matter of
if i let them or not.

Author's Note: my thoughts are so broken lately that i feel the need to apologize for what is not my usual quality. just trying to get things out.

Doesn't matter if it's your usual quality or not, b/c it's absolutely awesome. And, there's nothing better than poetry that cleanses the soul. Beautiful.

Outstanding, endlessly creative imagery. So many good things to take away from the experience of reading this.
