swallowing air

by Cassandra Leigh

i am
an expert at making people fall in love with me
traveling time and space searching for
old souls
pressing fiercely against
naked body after naked body in search of
just the right pressure point
to make our skins dissolve and our sentience
bleed into one

some people, i think,
marry young because they are terrified:
every day, their life stories are growing
page by page
and eventually it will be
too much work to tell everything to
the partner of their yoke
so they yoke their stories
so no one need speak them.

but i am
made of stories, and
every passing day is a volume, and
my future is a library.
i need a narrator who will
fall in
step with me
as i, little shark,
swim to keep the breath in my
lungs.

love how this progresses, until the last stanza where it really rocks

I agree with Shannon. I've thought those thoughts about myself, but have never had the words for them until now--yours--thank you.

Did you write this about me? Just kidding, but I relate and really enjoy this.
