Carolina Blue Skies

by Tony Whitaker

Bury me beneath those blue skies
Be in ashen or mortal form

Bury me beneath my blue skies
In the state
Where I was born

US Army, El Paso, Texas
Juárez, México made me a man?
Found myself college bound,
Success I found
Always chasing a rich life
Playing the plastic business man

Chased skirts and sang in church
Cast and caught me a wife
Wherever this country boy did perch
I always thought of those blue skies
Which paint my precious Earth

Switzerland holds my second home
Where Alps and castles rise
But even if I die
In that mystical place
Bury me beneath
My Carolina
Blue skies
In ashen or mortal form
Bury me beneath my blue skies
In a state
Where I was born

A lot of what I guess I might call somber bravado. I love it. I love the trip this thing takes me on.
