Remnants In a Pocket

by Lucia Haselhorst

It’s strange how the simplest things can make you smile.
How they can take you back to what you thought was lost.

It’s strange how those little things bring out
spontaneous laughter as though it was just
yesterday that you lived it.

How even the span of time and distance in miles
does not deter from that moment to flash vividly
through your mind of what had transpired.

It is uninterrupted pleasantness.

It’s strange how powdery remnants of rose petals
once placed carefully in a pocket can make you
thankful for those little things that you thought lost.

I enjoyed this very much, especially the third stanza.
