Address Book

by V. Blake

opened an old address book today.
found numbers for dead relatives
and failed relationships.
half disconnected;
half belonging to strangers by now.
most of these places
don't even exist anymore
and some entries
made better memories
than friends.

funny how much
we think
we know.

Author's Note: I used to write stuff.

Those last 3 lines are absolutely, positively, KILLER.

I'm familiar with the detachment dilemma -- we know you haven't lost it...

Talent generally doesn't skip town, and yours hasn't missed a single step. Great work.

...and proof your "stuff" is still making good poems. Remember, writing poetry is an honorable obscurity! Thank you.

And yes, you get it! :)

I too have missed your writing and missed writing poetry...so as I'm sure you can tell, I can very much relate. Nicely done.
