Southern Wind

by Lucia Haselhorst

Please carry me away.

Carry me to the place where my forgotten thoughts have been sealed.
It’s the place where all the moments that made me whole,
are safely put away with layered dust.

I know the mustiness thickens inside.
I cannot find it.

Southern Wind, with your embracing warmth, carry me to that place.
Help me release the choking fumes.
Help me reload those moments lost, back into my memory.

For once there and the air cleared, I will see.

I will see the faces and recall the moments that had made me feel alive.
I will hear the words I had mudded from the people I care most about with astounding clarity.
I will notice what I had disregarded.

Southern Wind
Will you help me not take life for granted?

That place that I have sealed will be my salvation.
That is the place, for once found,

I will find myself.

Beautiful; I really enjoyed this poem. It reminded me of the warm, humid breeze of Miami.
